Kingspan Points The Way

Kingspan Points The Way
A prominent new development in the West Midlands has used a number of products from Kingspan Insulated Panels. Vantage Point is located close to the landmark Fort Dunlop site in Birmingham, and consists of two large new buildings of which Unit 2 is still available offering 65,071 square feet.

Owned by the Catesby Property Group, Vantage Point is situated within a major area of business developments, with a number of multinational companies already based close by. Together, the two buildings will provide over 10,000 m² of combined warehouse and office space on the former industrial site. Kingspan’s KS1000 RW Trapezoidal roofing system and KS1000 MR Micro-Rib cladding system were both used throughout.

An important part of the specification process was to meet strict air leakage targets in conformity with Building Regulations Approved Document L2A, whilst taking into account other design demands. Simon Dick acting on behalf of Stoneleigh Services the installing contractor for building contractor Benniman Ltd explains: explains:

“By working closely with Kingspan and implementing the excellent performance characteristics of their products into the design we were able to reduce the overall thickness of the specified construction depth of the building, whilst exceeding target air leakage rates well below the design requirement and that of ADL2A. Vantage Point achieved a very good air permeability rate of 1.14m³ /hr/m².”

It was Kingspan’s envirocare technical services team that provided the expert advice needed to exceed ADL2A. In line with the Simplified Building Energy     Model (SBEM), the team undertook energy and carbon dioxide modelling using their government-approved IES “Virtual Environment” software.

Both Kingspan KS1000 RW and KS1000 MR are designed to achieve very low U-values and excellent air leakage rates. For example, 120mm thick KS1000 RW provides a U-value of 0.16 W/m²K, well below current Building Regulations standards. For both products, 5m³/hr/m² is the highest air leakage rate expected but as proven by the Vantage Point project, this can easily be lower.

envirocare technical services provide guidance on regulatory and sustainability issues to all Kingspan customers. They can provide crucial help in meeting Building Regulations, as well as advice on initiatives such as BREEAM and best practice standards including BS EN ISO 14001.
