The Kingspan Roof Tile system has been specified for the rebuilding of the leisure facilities at the Oaks Sports Centre, Surrey. The historic land on which the centre is situated has been a popular sporting venue with royalty for centuries, and was the original home of famous horse race “The Oaks”.

The project cost nearly £1million and took into account both modern construction demands and the pre-existing aesthetics of the site. This meant that the roofing materials needed to offer a consistent and attractive appearance.

Initially, a built-up roof system using a number of different components had been specified. However, main contractors Dumarc Building Services and roofing contractors RoofTech found that the single-fix system of Kingspan’s Roof Tile could provide a more efficient option without compromising visual impact.

The Kingspan Roof Tile system offers a traditional finish, available in a range of high performance coloured polymer coatings; in this instance terracotta was selected. It is a PIR-cored composite panel, with the outer metal facing shaped to form an attractive and realistic tiled appearance.

James Turner, RoofTech sales director, explained: “The ability to offer a system that reduces both the loading on the roof and installation period, with the added benefit of achieving the required U-value and overall aesthetics made the Kingspan Roof Tile panel the perfect solution”

Furthermore, the Kingspan Field Service Engineers team were on hand to help ensure installation was carried out safely and smoothly. In particular, they provided advice on issues of loading, weight and wind up-lift.

The single-fix, composite panel nature of Kingspan Roof Tile also means high thermal performance and minimal air permeability. A U-value as low as 0.20 W/m².k can be achieved, along with air leakage rates below the 10m³/hr/m² requirement. This means greater ease of compliance with both Building Regulations Approved Documents L2A & L2B (England & Wales) and Building Standards Technical Handbooks Section 6 (Scotland).

Kingspan Roof Tile panels are available in LPCB insurer-approved FIREsafe form, ensuring high levels of fire safety. They are also covered by the Kingspan Total Guarantee which offers 25 years guaranteed thermal and structural performance.
