Insulated panels are making a massive impact at a ‘jumbo’ warehouse space in Britain’s largest Enterprise Zone.
Over 30,000 m2 of KS1000 RW Trapezoidal and KS900 MR Micro Rib roof and wall panels from Kingspan Insulated Panels was used to create the building envelope for the huge warehouse, on the 85 acre Brookfields Park development site in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
The warehouse covers 1.1 million square feet within two linked buildings. The buildings, from developers St. Paul’s Developments, will occupy a self-contained site of nearly 50 acres and will be used by retailer Next as an additional distribution hub for its 450 stores.
RPS Burks Green was responsible for the design of the £50m construction. Stephen Oakden for the company said:
“We specified the KS1000 RW and KS900 MR panels because the solution is well proven and we were confident that the panels would achieve both the statutory and Client’s insurance requirements.
“We were also mindful of the construction programme that required early access for construction of floor slabs and tenant fit-out. It was therefore critical that we created a weather tight envelope as soon as possible to ensure that the following trades could be brought on to site at the earliest time. This could not be easily achieved with a traditional built up system.”
The thermally reliable Kingspan system has a full range of external finishes, providing clean, crisp building lines and offers designers a comprehensive range of aesthetic wall solutions.
Build time can be reduced by up to 50% with the pre-engineered systems, which are single component, single fix and simple to install. This allows a building to be made weathertight at an early stage in construction and speeds access for internal fit out trades.
The panels come with guaranteed thermal and structural performance for up to 25 years and lifetime durability in excess of 40 years; and are fully compliant with Part L2A (England & Wales) and Section 6 (Scotland) Building Regulations and LPCB/FM specifications.
The warehouse was recently completed ahead of schedule. The site, reclaimed from the former Manvers Colliery, will eventually house up to 2m sq ft of warehouse, industrial & office space and represents a £200m investment in Britain's largest remaining Enterprise Zone. It will create an estimated 2,500 jobs when fully developed.
