Kingspan Insulated Panels is celebrating winning a prestigious award from Building Magazine. The Sustainability awards recognise and reward construction businesses who actively pursue sustainable solutions, and Kingspan is winner of the 2007 Best Sustainable Business Practice category.

We want to make a real difference to the communities in which we work, to those involved with the products we manufacture and to the environment as a whole.”

 

Kingspan Insulated Panels actively pursue excellence in environmental sustainability and end of life management. The company has enacted a number of schemes to this end, including working with the Carbon Trust and a partnership with European Metal Recycling Ltd (EMR) to find new recycling solutions for used insulated panel systems.

 

A key project in Kingpan’s sustainability ambitions has been the commissioning of the Kingspan Sustainability Report. It has helped to outline exisiting achievements and areas for future development, as well as gaining a Global Reporting Initiative Application Level C.

 

In February 2007 key roof and wall panel products with an ECOsafe core from Kingspan’s Holywell facility were independently verified by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) as having a top ‘A’ rated lifetime environmental profile. Kingspan is the first manufacturer in their field to achieve this.

 

Further work has seen Kingspan involved with dcarbon8 and investing in research and technology to achieve Planet Positive™ approved carbon positive production techniques.

 

The Building Magazine Sustainability Awards are a leader in the field, and the original sustainability awards scheme for construction. Furthermore, the 2007 awards were given a rigorous new set of criteria. Building Magazine envisage these changes will help set a new benchmark for environmental excellence in the built environment.

 

This prestigious Building Magazine Sustainability award follows Kingspan Insulated Panels walking away with the top prize at the prestigious Wales Business and Sustainability Awards held on October 18^th 2007. The awards, which are managed by ARENA Network and supported by the Welsh Assembly Government, recognising environmental and sustainable best practice across all sectors.
