Kingspan Helps Phoenix Place To Fly
A new office development in Essex has been winning admirers for its striking appearance. Commissioned by Stockplace Investments Ltd, Phoenix Place in Basildon - whose main occupant is a major bank - features two systems from Kingspan Insulated Panels that have helped to maximise visual impact.

Alongside main contractor W A Hills, cladding specialists Avonsale installed the Kingspan KS1000 RW trapezoidal roofing panels, along with KS900 and KS600 MR Micro-Rib architectural wall panel systems. Avonsale’s Terry Brooks said:

“Efficient installation, product performance and an attractive aesthetic were all important requirements that these Kingspan products fulfilled. The building is so pleasing on the eye that a group of RIBA members made a special trip to come and view it.”

A major reason for the building’s visual effect is the use of colour finishes on the roofing and cladding systems. The colours used on Phoenix Place are just a few of the wide range of colours and finishes available for Kingspan systems, and were specified to ensure the building stood out from its neighbours.

This was complemented by the micro-rib profile of the KS900 and KS600 MR cladding panels. Part of Kingspan’s architectural wall panel range, the system is designed to provide visual impact and is available with hidden fixings and a range of ancillary components to complete the desired look.

Another important design feature was the distinctive shape and overhang of the roof edges. KS1000 RW trapezoidal roofing panels had the versatility needed for this to be constructed efficiently with minimal extra work and materials.

Importantly, the Kingspan systems ensured that the need for visual impact did not compromise building envelope performance. As both the KS1000 RW and KS600 and KS900 MR Micro-Rib systems are PIR-cored composite panels, they are capable of providing excellent U-values to meet Building Regulations Approved Document L2A standards and help to reduce energy consumption. The high levels of thermal efficiency are further enhanced by the factory formed jointing, which ensures air tightness of 5m³ /hr/m² or better can be achieved.

These systems are available in ECOsafe form, containing no CFC’s or HCFC’s, low Global Warming Potential, an “A” rating according to the Green Guide to Specification and an LPCB insurer-approved FIREsafe core. They are also fibre-free, removing the risk of loose fibres being released and compromising hygiene standards.
