Harringay Shopping Park Gets Kingspan Treatment

A new £8m retail development in Green Lanes, Haringey is the latest project to benefit from Kingspan Insulated Panels' pre-engineered building technology.

The Harringay Shopping Park was built using Kingspan's Kingzip® standing seam roof system and a wall envelope combining the Optimo™ and Thermatile wall and façade systems.  This allowed architects Colwyn Foulkes & Partners to create an aesthetically appealing effect, whilst attaining the highest standards in environmental sustainability and energy efficiency for the buildings.

Kingspan panel systems are created to ensure optimum bottom line performance and construction quality, whilst facilitating the maximum potential for building design teams to realise their ideas.  The panels also meet Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) insurer approved specifications and a range of fire engineered approved specifications.  Andy Patel at Kingspan's Envirocare Technical Services explains the company's philosophy:

"Kingspan are market leaders in insulated panels technology and the company is not content to simply produce premium performance panel systems; we also look to achieve that extra edge in innovation and design for our products."

This statement is certainly true of the Optimo™ system, not only can it be installed up to 50% faster than site assembled, built up alternatives, but the system also has lower lifetime costs because it requires less maintenance.

The Optimo™ panel is ultra-flat with slim sight lines, and is suitable for high quality architectural applications where an aesthetically appealing design is required.  It also offers environmental and economic savings because of its high insulation values and an airtightness rating of 5m3/hr/m2 certainty, exceeding Thermal Building Regulations (the Regulations require only 10 m3/hr/m2).

Richard Jones of Wildmoor Properties, Harringay's developers, said: "We're very pleased with the result.  As far as we're concerned the panels perform very well."

The new shopping park, developed by Wildmoor Properties, now includes units for national chains such as Argos, Homebase, Next, Sportsworld, Carphone Warehouse, Peacocks and Superdrug.

The re-development for which P J Carey (Contractors) Ltd were the Design & Build contractors involved a complex sequencing of works with the demolition of units, reconfiguration of access roads to the existing Sainsbury's store, extensive service diversions, and foundations straddling the Piccadilly Line tube tunnel below.
