Green Roof Solutions

Those seeking an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional roofing now have an innovative new option.  Kingspan Insulated Panels have recently launched Kingspan Envirodek, a structural green roof solution that offers a range of environmental benefits over traditional roofing systems, along with excellent installation efficiency.

Kingspan Envirodek is an insulated roof deck that has been specifically developed to support extensive and intensive green roof systems.  It can also be used to create curved roofs down to 15m concave and 30m convex radius, with the ability to support loads of up to 500 kg/m² at 2.5m double spans.

Eliminating secondary steelwork also completely removes an entire phase of construction, thereby increasing speed, site productivity and quality. The system has proven truck-to-roof installation, with safe site-handling equipment available. Using this equipment can allow build speeds of up to 1,000m² a day.

We are all conscious of the need to reduce our CO2 emissions, and by encouraging more plant life and thereby increasing CO2 absorption, Kingspan Envirodek structural green roof solution can play its part in lessening our environmental impact.  Furthermore, the extra layers of topsoil and vegetation on a green roof can help to increase thermal performance and reduce energy demand.

Green roofs also increase stormwater retention, which in turn helps to reduce the risk of flooding. Significantly, they can also help to reduce the urban heat island effect, which is common in built-up areas. What’s more, quality of life for the building’s occupants and neighbours can be visually enhanced, and wildlife may benefit from the increase in available natural habitat.

A green roof creates a protective layer which increases the life expectancy of the roof, and provides a heat shield in the summer.  Another important aspect is that it offers enhanced acoustic performance, reducing noise levels. Last but not least, it utilises what could otherwise be dead space, offering recreational and educational possibilities.
